Click & collect: local pickup orders

If you have a shopfront or a collection point, customers can choose to pick up their order instead of having it shipped. Pickup orders get their own workflow under Pickups in your admin sidebar.

How a customer chooses pickup

When you have at least one pickup store set up, a Delivery choice appears at checkout with two options: Ship or Pickup. If the customer chooses Pickup, they pick which store to collect from, enter a Pickup name, and see the note "We'll email you when your order is ready to collect." No shipping is charged.

Where pickup orders appear

Open Pickups and you'll see three tabs, with orders grouped by store so they're easy to scan:

  • Preparing — pickup orders you haven't got ready yet. Includes orders being paid on collection, which are still unpaid at this point
  • Ready — orders you've marked ready, waiting for the customer
  • Collected (today) — orders handed over today

Each row shows the order number, the customer's name and phone, the total, and how long ago it was placed. Click the order number to open the full order.

Marking an order ready for collection

Once you've picked and packed an order, find it on the Preparing tab and press Mark ready. Shopkit emails the customer to tell them their order is ready to collect, and the order moves to the Ready tab.

Marking an order collected

When the customer comes in and takes their order, open the Ready tab and press Mark collected. You'll be asked to confirm — "Confirm: customer has collected this order?" — and once you do, the order is completed (its status becomes fulfilled) and moves to Collected (today).

If the customer chose Pay when you collect, this is also the moment the sale is recorded — pressing Mark collected marks the order paid and draws the stock down. Take the money at the counter first.

A tip

Because pickup orders never ship, you won't add tracking to them — the ready and collected steps are all the updating a pickup customer needs. For shipped orders, see Managing orders.

Let Arthur help

If your store assistant Arthur is enabled, you can ask it to "mark pickup order 1042 ready" or "mark order 1042 collected". Arthur prepares the step and shows you a summary — it only runs once you confirm.
