Email marketing with your newsletter

Your newsletter is your owned audience — the customers who've opted in to hear from you — plus everything you need to actually email them. You'll find it under Marketing → Email.

How subscribers are collected

You don't add subscribers by hand. They join themselves from your storefront — through the email signup box in the footer and the newsletter section on your home page. Each new subscriber is recorded with their email, a source (where they signed up), and the date they joined. Signup is single opt-in, so someone is on your list the moment they submit the form, and Shopkit sends them a short welcome email automatically.

The Email page shows a running count (128 active · 4 unsubscribed) and a table of every subscriber. Export CSV (top right) downloads the full list any time.

Sending a campaign

Choose + New campaign to write a one-off email. You get a proper editor (headings, links, images), and a ✨ Suggest subjects button that drafts three subject-line options from your content. Always send a test to yourself first — then choose who gets it and when:

  • Audience — everyone on your list, or a segment (see below).
  • When — send now, or schedule it for later.

Nothing goes to anyone until you pick an audience and confirm.

Segments — email the right people

Under Email → Segments you can build an audience from what your store already knows: customer type (retail or wholesale), whether they've bought in a category, how long since their last order, total spent, or when they joined. The recipient count updates live as you add rules, so you always know your reach before you send. Save a segment (e.g. Lapsed 90 days, Candle buyers) and pick it when sending a campaign.

Automations — emails that send themselves

Under Email → Automations you can switch on triggered emails that run in the background:

  • Welcome follow-up — a few days after someone subscribes.
  • Post-purchase — a few days after an order, to thank them and ask for a review.
  • Win-back — when a customer hasn't ordered in a while.

Each is off by default; toggle one on and edit its subject, timing and message. They only ever send to people as they cross the trigger — never a blast to your whole back-catalogue — and anyone who's unsubscribed is skipped.

Seeing how it did

After a campaign sends, open it to see open rate, click rate, which links were clicked, and the revenue it drove (orders from recipients within 7 days) — a loop only a platform that owns your checkout can close. (Open rates depend on the reader loading images, so treat them as directional.)

Switching on sending

Composing, testing, segments and automations are available to build straight away. Broadcasting to your list needs email sending switched on for your store, which we set up on your own domain (so your emails are properly signed and land well). If the Send button says it isn't switched on yet, open a ticket and we'll enable it — it's part of connecting your own domain.

Staying compliant

The pieces that keep marketing email lawful in Australia are built in and applied automatically to every campaign and automation:

  • Sender identity — a footer with your business name, ABN and support email.
  • One-click unsubscribe — every email carries a working unsubscribe link and the one-click headers Gmail and Outlook look for.
  • Suppression list — anyone who unsubscribes is recorded and skipped on every future send, so you can't accidentally email them again.

Make sure your business name and ABN are filled in under Settings → Branding so the sender footer is complete.
