Discount codes & promotions

A discount code lets customers knock money off their order at checkout — either a percentage or a fixed dollar amount. You'll find them under Marketing → Discounts.

Create a code

Go to Discounts → + New code and fill in the Code section:

  • Code — what the customer types, e.g. WELCOME10. Use letters, numbers, - and _; it's saved in capitals.
  • TypePercent off or Fixed dollar off.
  • Value — for percent, 10 means 10% (100 is the maximum). For fixed, 5 means $5 off.
  • Applies toAll customers, or limit the code to retail or wholesale customers or channels.

Set the limits

Under Limits you can shape when and how often a code works:

  • Minimum order $ — the code only applies once the cart subtotal reaches this amount.
  • Max uses — leave blank for unlimited, or cap the total number of redemptions.
  • Valid from / Valid to — an optional active window.
  • Active — untick to switch a code off without deleting it.

There's also an Internal notes box (customers never see it) for recording why a code exists.

Save with Create code. Back on the list, each code shows its type, value, how many times it's been used, and a status of Active, Inactive, Expired or Used up. Click any code to edit or delete it.

Generate lots of codes at once

Need unique single-use codes for a campaign? Use Bulk generate to create up to 500 codes from a prefix (such as SUMMER) and download them as a CSV. This is available on the Small Business plan and above.

How customers use a code

On the cart page shoppers type their code into the discount code box and press Apply — the saving shows immediately, and they can Remove it. One code applies per cart.
